Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) has appointed several construction firms with extensive airport construction experience for the overhaul project, dividing the appointments between project managers and design-build contractors.
The Elevate CVG terminal and concourse overhaul project will cost the airport $220 million over the first quarter of 2026, with the entire project estimated to cost up to $575 million. The remaining project costs will be disclosed to the public in early 2026. As part of the finance plan, CVG has been rated A+ stable by Fitch and A1 stable by Moody’s.
The airport plans to expand and renovate the main terminal and concourses A and B. This includes upgrades to the baggage handling system, ticketing system, security checkpoints, baggage claim area, restrooms, escalators and elevators, as well as the tunnel and train.
CVG recently announced the contractors selected to share the project and assist in its completion, aiming to stay under budget and on time.
Three construction companies will jointly complete the $208 million project under the joint venture named AECOM Hunt – Skanska. This venture includes Dallas-based AECOM, Indianapolis-based Hunt Construction Group, and New York-based Skanska USA as the design-build contractors. They secured the contract by outbidding Messer Construction and Weitz Co.
The three firms have collectively completed more than 650 aviation projects, valued at approximately $21.1 billion, including the construction of Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. It's not just passenger planes; it's also a major cargo operation. Business decisions made at the top impact the cost of your ticket. With 8.7 million passengers, 2 million tons of cargo, and one new CEO, it's a privilege to be here. Larry Crowder will be arriving at CVG in March.
